Khai Lam, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals and London Bridge Hospital was the first U.K. recipient of the Gold ‘La Medaille d’Honneur’ from L’Etiole Europeenne du Devouement Civil et Militaire. The award, which was presented by Mdm Anh-Dao Traxel, President of EEDCM and daughter to President Jacques Chirac, was given in recognition of Mr Lam’s work in helping children with serious spinal conditions, treating aircraft ejectee pilots with spinal injuries, and his work in developing novel spinal implants and technologies.

Mr Lam accepted the prestigious award on behalf of the staff: “I am deeply honoured and  extremely grateful that my work has been recognised in this way by the EEDCM. I have accepted this award on behalf of the Guy’s and St Thomas’ Trust, my colleagues and patients that I have treated. This award will inspire us to continue with all our good work at the hospital”.     I am extremely pleased to here that Mr Lam has received this prestigious award, and that his magnificent work has been recognised in such an hounorable way.
    Mr Lam has spent a great deal of his life working extremely hard to help the lives of others through his research, teaching and surgical interventions, and his teaching and education he has lead the way to further opportunities for many others.
    His continued research into spinal problems and surgical interventions has already made many positive changes, and will continue to do so, creating further understanding, more potential and further advances in surgery .
    It is wonderful that this has been recognised in this way.
    Im am sure Mr Lam is very honoured to have received this much deserved award.
